On September 27, 2016, Xian Wang defended his Ph.D. thesis "Design and Evaluation of Novel Gesture-Centric Interaction Models in Smart Spaces" at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. Fulvio Corno was a member of the jury committee for the Ph.D. defense.

Xian Wang worked in the laboratory Espacios del Futuro at the CAIT – Centro de Apoyo a la Innovación Tecnológica of UPM, under the supervision of Ana M. Bernardos Barbolla. The Living Lab "Espacios del Futuro" researches and experiments novel user interaction modalities within an Internet-of-Things architecture, and the resarch topics show many similarities and synergies with the e-Lite group.
