Intelligent environments are composed of many devices, sensors, and actuators that should collaboratively contribute to the smart management of your home, office or building. But the real intelligence of the enviroment lies in a management system able to personalize and customize their behavior: householders must be able to program their intelligent environment, in an easy and reliable way.
The thesis of Rosalba Castro, presented on December 2014, explores the issue about the best user interfaces for allowing end-user programming of smart spaces, in particular smart homes. A user-centered design methodology has been followed, leading to the design and implemenation of an Android tablet-based application for allowing non-expert users to create new rules for automating the control of their environment.
First phase: usability evaluation, through a paper prototype.
Second phase: Android application.
