The e-Lite research group is proud to announce the start of a 3-year Ph.D. project in collaboration with the Joint Open Lab SWARM - Beyond the Internet of Things (JOL SWARM) by Telecom Italia.

The selections for the XXX Cycle of the Ph.D. in Computer and Control Engineering closed a few days ago, and the candidate Teodoro Montanaro has been assigned to work on this joint topic.

The research goal of the doctorate is to investigate the intelligence component in Internet of Things (IoT) architectures and applications. Many IoT projects and systems tend to concentrate their efforts in the integration of sensors and devices, and to offload most of the collected data and of the interesting computations to some cloud services. The presented applications are either based on large data processing, and thus the distributed nature of IoT risks being neglected, or tend to be quite deterministic, with the risk of downgrading to simpler automation scenarios.
The research activity of the e-Lite group and of the JOL SWARM will support the Ph.D. student Montanaro in the study, definition, and prototyping of intelligent distributed software components, able to be deployed both on the field and on the cloud, and that may extract additional value and intelligent behaviors for end users.

A warm welcome to Teo to the e-Lite group and to the JOL SWARM, and let the quest for more intelligent IoT systems begin!
